Personalizing Your Site

This article will go through everything in the WordPress customization section of the website. 

Go to AppearanceCustomize in your WordPress Dashboard to get started. You'll be presented with the following page

Details

The Details section of the customization panel allows you to edit surface level items, including your Site Identity, Header, Footer, Properties, Owner information and Social Media links.

Site Identity

  1. Go to AppearanceCustomizeSite Identity.
  2. You will be presented with a number of options:
    1. Logo - To change your site’s logo click Change Logo and select the appropriate file from your computer. You can then change the size of the logo, it is already set to the recommended setting of 200px.
    2. Site Title - This is the title of your website and serves as an introduction to your content. It is usually your company name. You will see it appear on Google search results.
    3. Tagline - This is the second part of the introduction and is a quick and catchy phrase introducing what you do. You also see this in the Google search results.
    4. Display Site Title and Tagline - Check this box ff you don’t want the site title and tag line to show in the header of your website (this is the default option in the demo).
    5. Site Icon - Also known as the favicon. This is the small image that appears next to your website in the address bar and at the top of your tabs. For example:To change this, click on Change Image or Select site icon and upload the file from your computer.
  3. Once you have made all your edits to this section. Click on Publish at the top of the top of the sidebar.

Header

  1. Go to AppearanceCustomizeHeader.
  2. You will be presented with a number of options:
    1. Button Text - By default, the text is set to Get Notified.
    2. Button URL - this is a hyperlink, by default, this takes the customer to a form to enter their details.
  3. Once you have made your required changes. Hit Publish to save.

Classic Footer

The footer area has a further two subsections.  Footer Widgets and Footer Bottom 

Footer Widgets

In the footer widgets, you have the choice to change the following.

  1. Go to AppearanceCustomizeClassic FooterFooter Widgets.
  2. You will be presented with a number of options:
    1. Logo – As above, click Change Image and insert the logo picture from your computer. If you prefer not to have a logo in the footer, click Remove.
    2. Logo Width - You can set the width of the logo, we recommend keeping it at 230px.
    3. Credit Image – There will be a section that displays all the types of credit cards that your site can accept. To change it, click Select Image. To remove it, click the Remove button.

      NOTE If you’re using Heartland to process your payments, these logos are mandatory.

    4. Credit Image Width -  Change the width of the logo by altering it in the text box, we recommend keeping it at 200px.
    5. Contact Information – There are also two boxes to add an email and phone number. Leave either of these blank if you don’t wish to include this information on your site.
  3. Once you’re finished, hit Publish to save

Footer Bottom

This area provides you with an area for copyright information.

  1. Go to AppearanceCustomizeClassic FooterFooter Bottom.
  2. You will be presented with a number of options:
    1. Copyright Text – To change the information, just type your preferred text in the box. HTML is allowed.
  3. Hit Publish to save.

Properties

  1. Go to AppearanceCustomizeProperties.
  2. You will be presented with a number of options:
    1. Property List Title
    2. HTML - You can use this to embed maps.
    3. Property List Description
    4. Property Search Bar
    5. New Property Sections Order
  3. Hit Publish to save.

Owner

The owner’s information will appear on specific properties on the Properties page.

  1. Go to AppearanceCustomizeOwner.
  2. You will be presented with a number of options:
    1. Owner Photo - To change the photo click on  Select Imagand choose an image from your computer. If you prefer not to have one, click Remove.
    2. Owner Name - Enter your name here.
    3. Title - Enter your title here.
    4. Company
    5. Phone Number
    6. Email
    7. Link - In this section you type in the information for the corresponding option above. This will either be a phone number, an email, or a hyperlink to a contact page.
    8. Contact Information Display - Enter any contact information here such as email or phone number.
    9. Contact Button Text - Here you can change the text on the contact button. For example, Call Now, Email Now, etc.
    10. Contact Button Type - Here you can change the type of button you would like.

      NOTE

      1. If you select Phone, it would automatically open up an application in your phone ready to make a call. The contact number would be stored in the Link section below.
      2. If you select Email, the button will open up your email application so you can directly send an email from whichever device you are on.
      3. If you select Link, you will be redirected to another page on the website with the contact information.
  3. Hit Publish to save.
